In recent weeks, Mukesh Ambani and Sanjeev Goenka were in the race to become partners in Karan Johar's Dharma Productions. However, it was Adar Poonawala, CEO of Serum Institute, who eventually emerged victorious.
Adar Poonawala's production company, Serine Productions, announced that they have acquired 50 percent of Dharma's shares. The company spent Rs 1,000 crore for this partnership. A joint statement from both organizations revealed that this decision aims to take Dharma Productions to new heights and expand its reach. Karan Johar expressed his excitement about the collaboration. He said, "From day one, our goal was to create content rooted in Indian culture. This partnership with Adar will bring many new opportunities in the future." He also mentioned that he is continuing the legacy started by his father, Yash Johar.
However, there have been rumors about Dharma Productions facing financial struggles. Some sources claim that the company has been incurring losses in recent years. Films like Liger flopped in 2022, and though Brahmastra was successful, other films like Govinda Naam Mera and Selfie underperformed. Despite the moderate success of Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani, Dharma is seeking new opportunities through this partnership.
