The world's most dangerous game is making its return. 'Squid Game,' the popular South Korean survival thriller, is coming back for a second season on Netflix. The first season, released on September 17, 2021, was a massive success, reaching the top viewership in 90 countries. It became so popular that Netflix saw a significant increase in subscriptions.
Now, after nearly three years, the deadly game continues. The recently released teaser shows Seong (played by Lee Joong-jae), who looks terrified as the game begins again. This time, the stakes are even higher. People from all walks of life—students, businessmen, gangsters, and elderly—are once again forced to play for survival.
Director Hong Dung Yeok has been working on the concept of 'Squid Game' for over a decade. He originally planned to make it a film, but many studios rejected the idea because of its violence and dark themes. The director drew inspiration from South Korea's economic struggles, his personal financial problems, and the people around him. Now, after much anticipation, 'Squid Game Season 2' will be available on Netflix on December 26, 2024, just after Christmas.
