A major scandal has come to light involving the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) in India. Amit Anand, a resident of Bihar, was arrested by the Bihar police for his role in leaking the NEET question papers. Amit confessed that he received the question paper a day before the exam and sold it for 30-32 lakh rupees each. This gave paying candidates 24 hours to prepare.
Amit was running an illegal coaching and consulting firm. He is one of 13 people arrested in connection with the leak. An internal report by the Bihar government's financial corruption department revealed that NEET exam corruption is deep and systematic. The cost of each question paper ranged from 15 lakh to 30 lakh rupees. Additionally, "solver gangs" were hired to write answers, costing an extra 10-15 lakh rupees. In total, around 1 crore rupees were spent to secure medical seats for candidates.
This scandal affects thousands of aspiring doctors who compete in the NEET exam each year. Despite the allegations, the Supreme Court announced that NEET counseling will proceed as scheduled on July 6. The Court also suspended the hearing of related cases in three High Courts at the request of the National Testing Agency.
