Delhi High Court Stays Arvind Kejriwal's Bail, Delhi CM Will Remain in Tihar

The Delhi High Court has put a hold on Arvind Kejriwal's bail following an urgent plea by the Enforcement Directorate (ED).The bench of Justice Sudhir Kumar Jain and Justice Ravindra Dudeja stated that a decision will be announced in the next 2-3 days. Until then, Delhi's Chief Minister and Aam Aadmi Party leader Kejriwal will remain in Tihar Jail.

Kejriwal, accused in the Excise corruption case, had been granted permanent bail by the Rouse Avenue court on Thursday. The ED challenged this verdict, filing an appeal in the Delhi High Court on Friday. A two-judge vacation bench decided not to release Kejriwal until the next High Court hearing.During Friday's hearing, ED’s lawyer, Additional Solicitor General Raju, argued that the Rouse Avenue court did not properly consider the ED’s documents against Kejriwal under Section 45 of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA). He claimed that the bail was granted without reviewing these documents. In contrast, Kejriwal’s lawyer argued that no evidence of illegal financial transactions was presented by the ED.

Kejriwal was arrested on March 21 and later granted interim bail for election campaigning. After this period, he returned to Tihar Jail. His wife, Sunita, criticized the ED’s actions, alleging bias and undue haste in challenging the bail.
